Protassov „Little Miss Sunshine“

„Little Miss Sunshine“, a haunting Electronic Pop ballad, marks a new departure for Protassov on the second single for his own label, Protassov Music.

Here, Protassov goes back to his roots in early electronic music, combining melodic, dreamy instrumentation with a bittersweet mantra, sung by himself.
The song takes us into an ethereal, lucid-dreaming zone, somewhere between waking and sleeping, before live drums kick in at the end of the track, like the break of an industrial dawn.
The result is somewhere between the alienated, dystopian Pop of Kraftwerk and the blissful Ambient sounds of early Warp Records.

„Little Miss Sunshine“ is the result of a collaboration with Elbtonal Percussion´s Stephan Krause, who complements Protassov’s programming with live Marimbas, Vibraphone and Drums on the track.

Protassov is originally from Ruhr, Essen, and now active in Hamburg.
He started out in the late 1980s-90s as a psychedelic punk rocker, playing guitar and singing in the notorious underground band, Tevo, who created techno with live instruments.
After listening to new strains of instrumental hip hop in the late 90s and meeting the Ancient Astronauts, Protassov developed his distinctive Bass/Breakbeats sound with Switchstance Recordings.
His minimalist style focuses on the creation of a perfect sound for fewer layers in each tune, while maintaining an ongoing fascination with the melodic, psychedelic styles of his early period.

Protassov met Stephan Krause at their local variety theatre, where Stephan plays for the in-house band. Away from the theatre, Stephan is a member of Elbtonal Percussion, a five-piece modern classical percussion band, playing complex atonal music, as well as translating modern pop music into their unique style.

„Little Miss Sunshine“ is a forerunner of many exciting new compositions which we can expect from this unique pair of musical pioneers, Protassov and Stephan.
